The Forestburgh Playhouse offers great
opportunities for young designers and technicians to add
real world experience to their formal education.
Designers will have the opportunity to work with
experienced directors as they work to create a
successful design within the limits of time, budget, and
staff. Technicians will likewise learn by doing in both
building and running large musicals. Salaries for design
and technical positions range from $175 to $450/week,
and all include housing, meals, and transportation from
New York City.

|
|
The
Set Designer will design and draft
the sets for selected shows. The set designer also executes
most of the scenic painting. Although the set designer
will not be directly involved with building, he or she should
be comfortable and experienced in a small scene shop environment.
He or she should have good communication skills and be able to work closely with
the directors, the TD, the props master, and the rest of the
technical staff. In terms of experience, our set designers usually have an
MFA, or are MFA students, with some previous experience in summer theatre
preferred. Set Designers are contracted by show, rather than for the whole
season.

The
Technical Director requires a hands
on person responsible for the construction of all six sets for
the season. Will work closely with the set designer to execute
the designs. Will supervise the assistant TD and two or three
carpenters. Will schedule and supervise all changeovers in consultation
with the stage manager and set and lighting designer. Contract runs approximately
May 21 September 4, 2012. The
Master Carp requires an individual with
excellent carpentry skills as well as the ability to assist the TD in
supervising the carpenters. Depending upon the show, he or she may be
part of the running crew. Contract runs approximately May 21 September
4, 2012.

The
Properties
Master will work with the TD and under the
direction of the Set Designer to shop, borrow, and/or build the props
for each of the shows. Some set painting may be involved. Depending upon the show, may be
part of the running crew. Contract
runs approximately May 27 September 4, 2012.

Carpenters will work under the supervision
of the TD or ATD to construct the sets and load in and out the
sets during changeover. Although most of the job involves carpentry,
some electrics may be involved. Carpenters will be part of the running crew. Contract runs approximately

The
Lighting Designer
will design lighting
for selected shows and will collaborate closely
with the directors, and will work with the stage manager and the TD
in organizing the changeovers. Will supervise the staff electrician.
Will be responsible for ordering the annual lighting equipment
rental, picking it up with the electrician, and returning it. In terms of experience, our set
designers usually have an MFA, or are MFA students, with some previous
experience in summer theatre preferred. Lighting Designers are contracted by
show, rather than for the whole season.
The Master Electrician/ALD
will work under the supervision
of the Lighting Designer and is responsible for maintaining the electrics, the board,
focus,
etc. as well as possibly running board during the shows.
He or she will also have the opportunity to design the lighting for
the cabaret and YAFF shows. Depending upon experience, he
or she also may be given the opportunity to design one or both of the
straight plays. Contract runs approximately May 27 September

Sound Designer/Operator will design all seven of the shows for the season.
Also responsible for setting
up the theatre sound system, including cables, area mikes, speakers,
amplifiers, and a multi channel sound mixer. Will also set up cabaret sound
system. Responsible for mixing during the shows. In terms of experience, our set designers usually
have an MFA, or are MFA students, with some previous experience in summer
theatre preferred. Contract runs approximately May 27 September 4,

The
Costume Designer will design selected shows for the season. This is a hands-on position
requiring sewing skills as well as organizational skills. Most
costumes are rented, pulled from stock, borrowed from actors,
etc - very few are constructed. Will collaborate closely with
the directors. Will supervise the wardrobe supervisor who works
as the assistant to the designer. In terms of experience, our set designers usually have an MFA, or are MFA
students, with some previous experience in summer theatre preferred. Includes housing, meals, and transportation to and from New York
City. Costume designers are contracted by show, rather than for
the whole season.
The
Wardrobe Supervisor/ACD works under the
supervision of the Costume Designer to execute the costumes for the
season. Responsible for costume laundry and repair. Some design
opportunities usually arise. Contract
runs approximately May 27 September 4, 2012.

Technical Interns are usually
undergraduates with limited experience but unlimited enthusiasm. Often
interns work in multiple technical disciplines: costumes/props,
carp/props, electrics/carp, etc. Contract
