Opportunities for Local Actors at the Forestburgh Playhouse

Although the Forestburgh Playhouse uses guest artist union actors in many leading roles, and its own non-union principal actors and resident actors for most supporting and ensemble roles, the Playhouse still often uses local non-union actors in our productions.  These actors may be children, high school or college students, or adults with community theatre experience.  Since local actors are usually students or adults who enjoy participating in the theatre as an avocation, they are usually not paid other than having the experience of working with professionals and learning how the professional theatre operates.

Local Auditions Announced

Local auditions for children, singers/dancers for ensemble roles, and adult character actors for all shows will be held at the Eugene Nesin Theatre at 22 St. John's Street in Monticello.

  • Sunday, February 12, 2012   1-4 PM

  • Monday, February 13, 2012   6-9 PM

We are specifically seeking 3 types of actors:

  1. Children aged 5 - 14 who sing to play the Von Trapp children in our upcoming summer production of the The Sound of Music

  2. Older students and adults who sing and move well to be part of the ensemble in various shows

  3. Character actors to be cast in roles in various productions during the summer.

Local Actors in Main Stage Musicals or YAFF shows

If an actor is cast in a show, he or she must be able to attend most rehearsals and all performances.  With the exception of the first show, Guys and Dolls, which will have some night rehearsals, usual rehearsals are held during the day, from 10 AM - 4 PM, on every day but Sunday and Monday for the 12 days preceding the opening.  Most shows run for 2 weeks, 7 performances a week.  While most local actors would not be called for rehearsal every hour of every day, and the Playhouse can work to some degree to accommodate a local actor's schedule, potential local actors with full time jobs will need to work out their availability carefully and co-ordinate closely with the Playhouse rehearsal schedule.

Click here for a detailed rehearsal and performance schedule for the entire summer.

If a local child actor is cast in The Sound of Music, he or she must be able to attend most rehearsals and all performances.  Click here for additional information on children performing at the Forestburgh Playhouse.
