WHO WE ARE…

The Forestburgh Playhouse is a performing arts center located within The beautiful Sullivan Catskills In Forestburgh, New York, approximately 90 miles From NYC. Every season, the Playhouse produces seven mainstage productions, a musical for young audiences, cabaret performances, arts education programming, a new works festival and special events.  Our programming is created and presented on the Forestburgh Playhouse Campus which consists of The Barn (our 270 seat theatre), The Tavern (a 120-seat, performance-cabaret space/restaurant/bar), The Annex (former church across the street, 100 seats, used as space for rehearsals, education, and smaller performances), and The Studio (rehearsal space near the Playhouse).  The Playhouse is equipped with offices for production planning, and professionally equipped scene and costume shops. 

Every year the Forestburgh Playhouse hires a company of more than 200 people, including actors (Equity and non-Equity), directors (non-union and SDC), musicians, designers, technicians, administrative/support positions, and restaurant staff (chef, servers/bartenders/ kitchen staff).  Payroll is biweekly and payday is every other Thursday.

For summer 2026, contracts for most technical positions will start approximately June 1, 2026 and continue through approximately September 1, 2026 (or later depending on availability).  These dates will shift depending upon position and production assignments.

MORE INFO ABOUT THE RESIDENT COMPANY!

Performance: Resident Company Members have enormous performing opportunities at the Playhouse. Each company member will appear in The Full Monty, Young Frankenstein, Newsies, and Head Over Heels , and may be cast in Next to Normal, Boeing Boeing or The Cottage, as well as cabarets and the TYA Production, which will be Shrek the Musical. Possibilities for main stage roles include leads, supporting roles, and ensemble.

Contracts: Most resident actor contracts begin mid-June 2025 and all will extend through August 25, 2025. To be considered for the Resident Company requires a full-contract commitment.

Compensation: Resident actors make $200/week.  The Playhouse also provides housing for the summer, all meals, and the cost of round-trip transportation to and from New York City.

Qualifications: Resident actors must be at least 18 years of age, with excellent singing, dancing, and acting skills, and a professional work ethic.  Due to the nature of our musical season, non-singers and non-dancers cannot be considered.

Auditions: The Forestburgh Playhouse will visit various conservatories/college programs throughout the country and will accept video submissions (2 contrasting 16 bar selections, brief monologue and dance reel with jazz and tap) until February 15, 2025.  Submissions will not be considered after that date. The Resident Acting Company (aka the ResCo) forms the core of the Forestburgh Playhouse's performance team. The 12-16 non-union actors in the ResCo spend the summer performing and rehearsing in a professional atmosphere, gaining valuable experience and learning their craft. Resident actors are not interns or apprentices, but full time performing non-union professionals who will work alongside experienced and prolific professionals throughout the season.

The Playhouse selects its company from by visiting multiple conservatories/ college programs across the country as well as attending audition conferences and accepting video submissions.. As part of its commitment to developing young talent, Resident Company members who do particularly well are often invited back the following year and given opportunities to perform larger roles or in other capacities, such as directing, choreographing, assisting the producer, etc. A number of former Resident Company members have been re-hired as Equity actors.
